Cultivating and Embodying the
Compassionate Warrior

Living a life that combines the inward journey towards the peace in the heart's center with the courage to confront injustice and suffering in the world.

Find your way of integrating inner growth with the calling to help.

The daily news has become a challenge to us all. It calls us to face our very human reactions of fear, anger, guilt, grief, or hopelessness, and open to the deepest truth of who we are and what we can do in this world. For those on a spiritual path, seeking to live with an open heart and to act with compassion, turning on a t.v. or radio, or reading the newspaper, can be a dangerous act. These are indeed times that try our souls.

In this talk and discussion, we will look at the difficulties and gifts of combining one's spiritual focus with involvement in the issues of the community and world around us. While we explore many possible ways in which this can be done, the focus will be on each person finding their own path of integration.

The way of the Compassionate Warrior is to confront and engage that which is feared, hated or hidden (the shadow) whether within or without. It is also a way to find your voice-- to express yourself with honesty, courageous kindness, and strong action.

"You could become a great horseman, and help free yourself and this world,
Though only if you and prayer become sweet Lovers."
- Hafiz
